According to research conducted by the CBS, the average Dutch car is parked for more than
23 hours a day. This is a serious waste of much needed space in the urban environment.
However, with autonomous vehicles the car can go on without a driver. This means that it
can go park somewhere else, where there is more space and parking is cheaper, or it can go
on and pick up other people or packages. This last part is where our project meets this
We, from Autonomous Eindhoven, are not only creating the system that uses this innovation,
but also the autonomous vehicle itself. Our vision is that within 5 years we have an
autonomous fleet on the campus of the TU/e that can pick up students and bring them to the
right building, all without the intervention of a human driver.
